Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has never been the most enthusiastic Donald Trump supporter. However, when he was asked this week about Hollywood celebrities like Charlie Sheen who are calling for Trump to be impeached, Rubio immediately defended our president.
“We’ve got to just take care of the country. We’ll see how it all plays out,” Rubio told TMZ.
The Florida senator went on to urge celebrities to stop focusing on getting Trump impeached.
“We’re pretty divided right now, you know, as a country,” he said, according to The Blaze. “I think it’s alright to disagree on things. We gotta figure out things we can work together on. In the end, I’m not going anywhere, the other people aren’t going anywhere — we’re gonna be in America together.”
“We might as well make it work,” he continued. “And on the things we disagree on, we can have a debate about them. But on things we can kind of make progress on, we should try. That’s what I’m gonna try to do. I hope it works.”
Rubio was adamantly opposed to Trump when they were both on the campaign trail, but he ended up voting for him in the election anyway. When asked why he ultimately voted for Trump, Rubio responded, “I signed a pledge, put my name on it, and said I would support the Republican nominee, and that’s what I intend to do.”
